Over the next week, we'll be hosting budget and tax policy briefings for state legislative candidates across Ohio.  One number we'll mention?

$650 million.

That is how much money the state deposited in July (the end of the fiscal year) into the Rainy Day Fund. This fund is like a savings account where the state can hold money collected to cover unexpected expenses or fill a budget hole during difficult economic times. With the recent deposit, the state has nearly $2.7 billion saved. While it is smart to have a healthy Rainy Day Fund, it is already raining in many parts of Ohio and for many of our neighbors.  Classrooms are going without adequate supplies, bridges are in disrepair, and we still need to invest in mental health and addiction treatment - not to mention the needed investments to address the long-standing issues of inequality that exist in Ohio.
Their webinar series continues on August 9th at 2pm with the Ballot Measure Advocacy for Nonprofits: Taking a Stand in 2018. Please RSVP today!

The Midwest Culture Lab - a project the Ohio Student Association (OSA) is deeply engaged with - is looking for artists to help with their upcoming project of telling one thousand stories to increase youth civic engagement and voter turnout. Applications are due August 20th! Register for the August 6th informational webinar and apply here!
The Council on American-Islamic Relations has done great work with the Franklin County Board of Elections to recruit poll workers who can serve as interpreters on Election Day! Please spread the word and contact Usjid Hameed for inquiries and details.
